Treatment For All Types Of Scars

Our Dermal Nurses are experienced in skin resurfacing, helping our clients improve the appearance of scars and discolouration that has been caused by acne. As registered nurses they also have the knowledge to consult with you on the management of surgical scars or those left behind by accidents, trauma or self-harming.

We use the Exceed Skin Needling pen for minor scars and discolouration, and ProStamp, an advanced skin needling device, for deeper or older scars. Book a Scar Therapy Consult with one of our Dermal Nurses to discuss your skin goals and plan your treatment.

Managing Acne Scars

When we struggle with acne, it is inevitable to be left scars. The type of scars we experience is dependent on the severity of the acne, our skin type and our ethnic background. Depending on your age, health and skincare habits is is possible for some types of scars to fade and not require resurfacing treatment. During a 30-minute consultation our expert Dermal Nurses can help you identify your type of acne scars and advice on the best treatment protocol.

Here is an overview of the different types of acne scars:

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation or dark spots - once your acne heals, it often leaves behind a red, purple or dark patch of skin. These scars may resolve on their own with a good skincare regime, sun protection and time. The scars will resolve more easily if they are red and on younger skin. Once the scars have become dark, they will need resurfacing treatment to help the healing process. People most likely to experience post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation include those who have darker skin and those who pick or squeeze their acne.

Rolling scars - have varying depths, with sloping edges that make skin appear wavy and uneven. These scars require skin resurfacing and respond well to ProStamp within 3-4 treatments.

Boxcar scars - are broad, usually box-like depressions with sharply defined edges. Boxcar scars are caused by widespread acne or chickenpox. Boxcar scars most often form on areas like the lower cheeks and jaw, where skin is relatively thick.

Ice pick scars - are smaller, narrow indentations that point down into the skin’s surface. These scars are common on the cheeks. These scars are generally more challenging to treat and will require ProStamp Treatment over several months. You can expect a softening of these scars but may not have a full resolution.

As a specialist acne clinic we are experienced in treating scars pf all types. We have in-depth knowledge of the skin and understand the science behind scar therapy. We are also very honest and know our limitations - we set realistic goals and will refer you to another skin clinic, laser clinic or specialist scar clinic if we feel your concerns are out of our scope of treatment.
